Small, scabby bumps surrounded by a sea of white flakey skin covered my legs. Allergic eczema was the dermatologist's diagnosis. The synthetic ingredients found in the pretty looking and smelling body washes and lotions I was using were wreaking havoc on my skin. The first step of healing was to remove the synthetics from my skincare routine. At the time, I was faced with extremely limited options. Store bought sensitive skin products, while not causing any further skin damage, did little to moisturize and heal.

Knowing there had to be a better option I came across pure and natural shea butter. It moisturized, soothed and healed my damaged skin. Beyond shea butter, I discovered cocoa butter, avocado oil, beeswax and much more; a whole world of skin loving natural ingredients! Armed with my new finds and utilizing my knowledge of biology and chemistry (I have a BS in Biopsychology and spent years working in Biological research), I created sensitive skin friendly body butters and balms which worked better than the synthetic filled lotions. I was hooked, trying different combinations of oils, waxes and extracts to suit my needs. When my children came along, introducing me to the world of food allergies, I made new blends to heal their diaper rash ravaged bottoms, and even began making powders.

I was perfectly happy concocting balms, butters and powders until exciting water based ingredients, like hydrosols and water soluble vitamins, enticed me into the world of emulsions. Lotions, creams, mousses; so many new possibilities awaited! After extensive research and experimentation (once again, my science background came in handy), I began creating my own formulations. I was originally attempting to just create natural based versions of my family’s everyday cosmetics, but through my experimentations, some real winners emerged.
